Honey Blood

like honey droplets
red and sweet
the ink of my life seeps from me
down the neck of the feather in hand
on cracked parchment
like a silver strand
to seal the fate, the deal is done
skies groan above
the soul is sold
in honey blood

Unwitting Poesy

Written on a day in summer:

"I was just leaving the metro to get to work, adding up how I was going to stretch the last two dollars in my wallet for the ride home. And all the way up the escalator, as I’m blasting my music, I hear a distant baritone tune in the background that I kind of didn’t even notice. But when I get to the top of the escalator I took my earphones out to see a teenage boy playing a large double bass with a sign that said he wanted to go to a high school for the arts and a small jar full of strangers’ money…I smiled because that’s what I would do in such a situation. In truth I’m not sure if it was a scam or not and frankly I couldn’t imagine that it was. The look that boy had on his face was so sad, but it was the look of an artist baring his soul to his craft. Somewhere between heartache and bliss or something like that. And I smiled because I could recognize the irony that I was planning the fate of two dollars that were never mine to keep. And now those last dollars have joined the fray of money shoved into that boy's small jar…"

A job application asked me a question...

They asked me what I think the biggest problem in the world.

My answer:

"The biggest problem would be the lack of understanding between individuals. More than a lack of understand is a lack of WANTING to understand. People don't want to connect with one another anymore and it's led to a rather shallow and disconnected world. We see this in many aspects of life today whether it's on social media or between two enemy factions in the middle east. For example, many people use Facebook to talk to one another but the conversations tend to have very little substance. Our interpersonal relationships as a whole need to be held together with more than "text lingo" and Emojis.

The lack of understanding can also be seen in every terrorist attack, murder, assault, and bomb threat report liberally sprinkled about the news today. No matter what news channel you prefer there is a report being told about someone who hurt others to get their point across. It shouldn't be this way.
We are all humans who get hurt both physically and emotionally. Because we all share this trait we should try harder to understand the perspectives of others. The alternative to that is to hurt one another and hurting one another is far less constructive.

We don't have to agree with one another but I believe we all should at least try to understand one another. Retaliation hurts both parties but there's something about coming together and sharing pain that breaks previously immovable barriers. If the two parties involved cannot agree to understand one another then I would prefer they agree to interact as little as possible before they resort to judgement and hurtful actions.

Trying to understand something that scares you or offends you is one of the hardest things a person can do but in my experience it's usually worth it. If the opinion shared continues to scare, hurt, or offend you then express that so that you can let it go."

It was a bit of a rant but I HOPE HOPE HOPE they at least consider me for the job.
