They asked me what I think the biggest problem in the world.
My answer:
"The biggest problem would be the lack of understanding between individuals. More than a lack of understand is a lack of WANTING to understand. People don't want to connect with one another anymore and it's led to a rather shallow and disconnected world. We see this in many aspects of life today whether it's on social media or between two enemy factions in the middle east. For example, many people use Facebook to talk to one another but the conversations tend to have very little substance. Our interpersonal relationships as a whole need to be held together with more than "text lingo" and Emojis.
The lack of understanding can also be seen in every terrorist attack, murder, assault, and bomb threat report liberally sprinkled about the news today. No matter what news channel you prefer there is a report being told about someone who hurt others to get their point across. It shouldn't be this way.
We are all humans who get hurt both physically and emotionally. Because we all share this trait we should try harder to understand the perspectives of others. The alternative to that is to hurt one another and hurting one another is far less constructive.
We don't have to agree with one another but I believe we all should at least try to understand one another. Retaliation hurts both parties but there's something about coming together and sharing pain that breaks previously immovable barriers. If the two parties involved cannot agree to understand one another then I would prefer they agree to interact as little as possible before they resort to judgement and hurtful actions.
Trying to understand something that scares you or offends you is one of the hardest things a person can do but in my experience it's usually worth it. If the opinion shared continues to scare, hurt, or offend you then express that so that you can let it go."
